It’s been a couple of days since my last post. Basically, the weekend happened and I ended up being out and / or distracted quite a lot. I’m not going to let that put me off writing though. Forming a habit takes time. Also, lots of things happened which are relevant to the goals I wrote about last time.
(The weekends are Friday and Saturday in Sudan)
I visited an event at my friend’s rooftop
There was a space that I thought would be great for a garden
Friday & Saturday:
I made plans with a friend to join this course to learn about platform cooperatives and how this could be developed in Sudan:
The ideas we discussed were: community growing cooperatives and also nomadic home cooperatives in boats on the Nile or Trucks that can drive into the desert.
I was thinking about making planters and then saw this cool example of how to do it when in the garden at an art exhibition:
I made plans with some friends to go to a second hand market on Monday and look at what things we can find for the rooftop. Hopefully old water tanks or old bathtubs.
Rooftop mapping and drawing of very basic initial design idea:
The initial map has 11 bathtubs or equivalent to go around three edges. Then there are 3 posts that are used to tie ropes high up. Then ropes are tied across to create a partial shelter from the sun and grow vines that will add additional shelter. At first we might also add some kind of fabric to provide extra shelter. Later on if we want to add more shelter we can also use more rope and cover the other half of the space by tying ropes from the initial structure over to a higher section of the rooftop that is not shown in the photos. It is off to the bottom left of the map.
So generally it’s been a pretty productive few days whilst also having a lot of time socialising. I’m looking forward to the trip to the market tomorrow. I’ll try and remember to take a few photos.
One last thing to say, I’m finishing writing this at 7:40pm. I’m supposed to go to crossfit training at 9pm. I am feeling like I really don’t want to go. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to report that I actually did go.
